All participants will receive compensation in the form of gift reward cards, Prolific payment, or other rewards through retailers. Your reward will vary from $4 to $8 depending on the survey and recruitment source.

Your email address will never be linked to your survey responses. The results stemming from the study will only be reported in aggregate. Only members of the research team will have access to the data, and no identifying information will be stored with your data. All data will be stored on password protected website or a shared folder with two-factor authentication. No identifying information will be included in the file that could be used to link responses to a specific respondent.

No. You may exit the survey at any time without penalty or loss of benefits.

We do not anticipate direct benefits to participants beyond compensation and learning about the research process. However, the knowledge gained from the study may foster a better understanding of the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Such knowledge may contribute to the development of new policies and social interventions to help address major societal events in the future. In that way, your participation may help alleviate the suffering of others.

We do not anticipate any major risks. You may feel transient emotional discomfort in response to some of the questions, which ask about your experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic and any potential distress. But we expect these to be minor. You are welcome to review a copy of the full survey before deciding whether you would like to participate.

The results of this project will be published in peer-reviewed journal articles, presentations, webinars, and other sources. We will make all publications available to research participants.
